ZONE TONES                            Vol. One, No.3

NOTES FROM THE ATLANTIC ZONE COORDINATOR

STUDEBAKER DRIVERS CLUB, INC.

November 26, 2007

Friends;

            This has been a good year for Studebakers and for those who find much enjoyment with their Studebaker friends. Those who attended the International Meet in South Bend had the opportunity to see the great new Studebaker National Museum. The Meet was well attended and offered a myriad of activities for participants. Estimates of the number of Studebakers, including a large contingent of Packards from the Packard Club, ranged up to 900-1000 vehicles. Many folks described the 43rd International as ‘The Best Yet’.

            Personally, I had a fantastic week. My good friend, Gerald Hiter, my son, Wade, and I arrived on Sunday. We had several inside and outside vendor spaces. We did very well in selling many Studebaker parts and literature. I believe the high point of the week was my visits to the Museum. It is so far beyond what I had expected having experienced former attempts at establishing a museum.

            I was just released from my second stay in the hospital this year. It’s tough getting old!! I’ve wondered what happened to the Golden Years. I think the doctors get all the gold.

            I wish all of you a blessed holiday season.

UNDATE OF OUR NEWEST CHAPTER

            Our newest chapter in the Atlantic Zone- the Delmarva Peninsula Chapter, has gotten off to a great start. The Chapter has good leadership from its officers.  The Chapter sponsored a fairly large meet in this, its first year, at Dover Downs. Over 160 paid registrations filled the field. The meet was a success in all aspects for this new chapter. Congratulations, Delmarva Peninsula!!!

Also noted is the Chapter’s newsletter, The DelMarVa Sea Hawk. This newsletter ‘hit the road running’ as a well organized and presented publication as nice as many older newsletters. Congratulations to all of the members and especially to Gail Philippi, newsletter editor.

ANNOUNCEMENT- 2009 ATLANTIC ZONE MEET

            The Central Virginia and the Greater Virginia Chapters-SDC have announced they will co-host an Atlantic Zone Meet in 2009. The event is planned for the weekend of June 19-21, 2009 in Harrisonburg, VA. Regional Managers are asked to disseminate this information to all of your presidents. Specifics will be forthcoming as plans develop. This is the first undertaking of its kind for both of these chapters. Leonard Shepherd is President of the Central Virginia Chapter headquartered in Richmond, VA. Dale Early is the President of the Greater Virginia Chapter headquartered in the Shenandoah Valley.

            No chapter has stepped forward with a proposal for a 2008 Atlantic Zone Meet. This means we have gone two years without a zone meet. Hopefully, this will not happen again, although I understand the reluctance for 2008, as we are the host Zone for the next International Meet. What happened in 2007?

3rd QUARTERLY REPORT

             The 3rd quarterly membership report has been sent to your Regional Manager. Several chapter presidents will also receive the report where necessary. Managers, please encourage your presidents to use this information in their recruiting efforts. I do apologize for its tardiness.

Please contact me at M16-52@comcast.net if you need assistance, if you have concerns or if you are not getting information you need to go your job.
