To members in the Atlantic Zone:

2006 was another very successful year for SDC.  The January and February 2007 issues of Turning Wheels provide a detailed report on the 2006 International Meet in Omaha – however, I know that not everyone reads every word of the national SDC board meeting minutes.  So the following describes a few of the highlights of the meeting.

  1. As you all know, the 2007 Int’l Meet will be in South Bend in June.  This meet differs significantly from previous meets in one way, though.  Because the meet is sponsored by the Studebaker National Museum, all events will be held at either the museum complex or the county fairgrounds.  None will be held at the host Holiday Inn.  So you won’t miss much (except some parking lot conversations) by staying at another hotel.  Get your reservations in early, as this will be a HUGE meet – joint with the Antique Studebaker Club, Avanti Owners Association, and Packard Automobile Classics.

  1. Memberships can now be renewed for up to five years at a time.

  1. You’ll see a lot more color in upcoming issues of TW.

  1. Liability insurance under the SDC policy will be available at no charge to all chapter officers when exercising their chapter duties. This coverage will be effective on July 1, 2007 and is limited to US and Canadian chapters only. All chapter officers must be SDC members and will have to provide their SDC membership number.  For this coverage to be available, at least 50% of all chapters must sign up.

  1. A new library subscription rate for TW is now available for $19.95.  This rate is good for 12 issues of TW, but does not confer membership in the club.  Chapters are encouraged to give these as gifts to their local libraries.

  1. The new $8 rosters have been a sales success and have sold out for 2006.  New 2007 rosters will be available soon.

  1. There were some judging problems at Omaha, particularly with Division 8.  There was a shortage of judges for some divisions, and judging sheets for some divisions were turned in too late in the day to be reviewed.  Chief Judge Carl Thoms has reviewed all the judging sheets and revised a number of the scores (including all those in Division 8) upward.  Judging continues to be a difficult and contentious issue.

  1. The SDC Web site continues to improve and can be used to conduct most routine business with SDC.  The SDC Forum on the Web continues to be very popular, and now allows postings of cars and parts for sale.

Best wishes to all for a happy and safe 2007.  See you in South Bend in June!
